Just Wills and Legal Services: Shaping Legacies through Charitable Giving

At Just Wills and Legal Services (JWALS), our commitment to giving back to charities and good causes is not just a business practice; it’s a fundamental aspect of our identity. We understand that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and legacy gifts go hand in hand, creating a profound impact on the world around us. Our mission is to ensure that our clients’ estates leave a lasting, positive legacy and for many of our clients that includes charitable gifting.

The Power of Charitable Legacies

Charitable giving is not merely an afterthought in estate planning; it’s often a central theme for many of our clients. At JWALS, we’ve witnessed firsthand the profound impact that charitable legacies can have on the lives of those in need. Our clients, just like our dedicated team of consultants, are passionate about seeing charities and organisations benefiting from their estates whether it’s a small gift or a considerable legacy.

Our consultants, who work closely with clients on estate planning, understand the importance of supporting initiatives and causes that resonate with their hearts. It’s not just about preserving wealth for future generations; it’s about creating a meaningful impact on the world.

A Top-Down Commitment to Charity

Our dedication to charitable giving is not only ingrained in our client relationships; it’s also a top-down initiative within our organisation. Our CEO and owner of JWALS, for instance, has a deeply personal connection to the world of charitable work.

Letty, the daughter of our CEO, embarked on a transformative journey at the age of 18 when she first set foot in Tanzania. During her time in Tanzania, she discovered an orphanage where children were suffering both physical and mental abuse at the hands of their caretakers. Her response was nothing short of remarkable.

For the next three years, Letty devoted most of her time to caring for these children, simultaneously raising funds to provide for their medical and educational needs. In 2016, as a result of Letty’s relentless efforts, the abusive orphanage was shut down by the local council.

But Letty’s story doesn’t end there. After navigating a complex web of legal procedures, she was granted permission by the social welfare office to open a home for the nine children who were left homeless. She was registered as their legal guardian, laying the foundation for the birth of Street Children Iringa, a UK registered charity, in February 2017—a charity strongly supported by our CEO.

In 2015, Letty furthered her commitment by founding and registering a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Tanzania to oversee all of Street Children Iringa’s activities, providing a seamless partnership with the UK charity. Over the past nine years, Letty has dedicated the majority of her time to Tanzania, where she has nurtured and raised the children in the home, managed a safe house, and led various projects in Iringa.

The profound impact of Letty’s efforts and the work of Street Children Iringa were recognised in December 2020 when she and the charity received a prestigious ‘Point of Light’ award from the Prime Minister.  See more here
